Treatment Study

There is an optional sertraline treatment study embedded in this project. This is a treatment study for which you could be eligible if you are in Cape Town or Sao Paulo.

Treatment will entail taking a medication known as sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or an SSRI, for 12 weeks. This is not an experimental medicine: it is proven and is frequently used to treat OCD, and is considered to be safe. Treatment will entail taking sertraline up to the maximum recommended or tolerated dose (e.g., increasing the dose gradually), and under supervision of one of the study doctors, for 12 weeks. You will undergo a brain scan (MRI) at baseline and a second MRI scan at week 12.
